Blooming Girls Art Workshop with Theodora Miller March 3rd, 2024 | 1 - 4 pm  Quirk Gallery in Quirk Hotel in Charlottesville, Virginia Join us for an afternoon of creating abstract floral paintings! Richmond artist Theodora Miller will share her inspirational story from brain injury to full-time artist and guide you through a hands-on process of painting and collaging a Blooming Girl painting. You’ll explore painterly brushstrokes and play with colorful paint chips from her recycled palette papers. Each blossom will have its own details and imperfections that will make her complex, graceful, beautiful and wise.  You will create and take home your very own Blooming Girls masterpiece: one 5x7” on the prettiest handmade cotton rag paper with deckled edges. Supplies, instruction and libations included! The inspiration behind Theodora’s Blooming Girls collection “Orchids were my mother’s favorite flowers and she grew them effortlessly in humid Central Florida. I’d never had any luck with them in Richmond. I’d buy them in full bloom only to have them go dormant for years. On that cold January day on the first anniversary of her passing, an orchid blossom unfolded. Sure, some may call it sheer coincidence, but I choose to see it as a divine sign – a message of love and a reminder to keep blooming. Beyond every challenge, loss or hardship, the season of blooming returns and yields even greater strength, courage and beauty.” About the Artist After a traumatic brain injury forced her into complete isolation and cognitive rest, artful living took on new meaning; it became an essential part of her healing. Today, Theodora has a thriving creative practice as a visual artist, ceramicist and creative entrepreneur. Her ever-evolving visual language draws inspiration from her emotions, surroundings, Hellenic heritage and ancient symbols. Her signature elements are intuitive brushstrokes, gestural marks, and layers built over time. Each soulful creation carries intricate details, texture and a story.  Her artwork is featured in corporate collections and treasured by art lovers around the world. She resides in Richmond, Virginia but her spirit dwells on an island in the Aegean Sea.

On February 9th at 5:30pm, we will be hosting a Valentine-making workshop in the Main Gallery led by Snail Mail! In this one-hour workshop, a list of affirmations will be provided for participants to create a set of 4-6 self-love Valentines. For the first 45 minutes, you will have creative freedom to play with paint and try out different designs. The last 15 minutes will be dedicated to creating a surprise bonus art piece focused on self-love that will make its way back around to participants in an unexpected way!
